RSM has considerable experience with crisis and disaster response support services, from linear or simple events involving individuals or small groups, to catastrophic situations involving country-wide emergency situations with national populations affected. Below are several examples of where RSM has supported organizations with crisis and disaster response needs:
Example: RSM were contracted to conduct a review of the security and safety challenges facing a large NGO operating throughout Haiti. RSM provided comprehensive reviews and were then engaged to establish Incident Management, Travel and Evacuation Plans, provide Staff Safety handbooks, provide induction training packages, recommend crisis stores and operational methodologies and review facilities within the country. A subsequent additional task to train staff in first line medical support occurred with recommendations to create networking and leveraging forums and relationships.
Example: RSM deployed a crisis coordinator to support a major soft wear and internet company in coordinating logistics, security and networking in both Haiti and DR in order to facilitate business and operational tasks for client disaster response staff in and around Port-au-Prince following the earth quake and collapse basic infrastructures within the country. Movements were made to the US embassy and other client sites throughout the city. Living conditions were very rudimentary and clients were housed at a tented camp set up by Sean Penn at a country club secured by the 82nd Airborne and sat atop a camp of 75,000 displaced persons. VIP support was also provided to the founder of the company. Pre-departure briefings were provided and essential stores and materials procured.
Example: A Crisis and Security Manger deployed to Port-au-Prince within 24 hours to quickly give the home office an on the ground assessment of the situation and to ensure that business continuity continued. He also reviewed the plans and policies currently in place and made recommendations to these plans taking into consideration the effects of the earthquake and its impact on the socio economic structure. Site assessments were made on effected areas as part of a-cash-for work program. Critical monies and supplies were also delivered, with the appointee acting as a bridge between the field and home office.
Example: Following an attempted suicide by The Chief of Party, RSM deployed a Consultant within two hour notice and arrived in Country to assess the situation. It was reported that there were indications that the COP had been involved in fraudulent activities in past positions – there are indications that fraud may have occurred within the program. The manager had attempted suicide following an administrative suspension for possible (past) fraudulent activity. Duty of care was provided to COP whilst in hospital. It was decided to terminate the COP and a severance package was negotiated. COP departed Pakistan on release from hospital.
