Risk Evaluations and Consulting

RSM has considerable experience in risk management and consulting support both in terms of business, operations and planning domestically and internationally. We have supported clients worldwide on sensitive, fluid and post crisis events in order to understand or respond to threats. Below are a few examples of the services we have performed for various organizations worldwide:

Example: RSM advisors provided domestic terrorism consulting for a consortium of U.S. construction companies engaged on a multi-billion dollar domestic construction project. RSM advisors provided strategic advice and guidance on eco-terrorist issues, as well detailed vulnerability assessments to the management team. In addition, advisors also provided project team training and supporting educational materials in order to increase manager and team security awareness.

Example: RSM were requested to support a large NGO with understanding how their insurance coverage applied to Kidnap and Ransom situations as they entered new operating areas, especially high risk countries such as Afghanistan. RSM sat with senior executives and reviewed their Kidnap and Ransom policy and provided a detailed report on what questions and strategies to approach with their insurer, as well as the elected kidnap and ransom negotiator team recommended by the insurer. RSM provided directions and recommendations which led to a change in the insurance policy and interviews with alternative kidnap negotiator companies as offered to the executive team.

Example: RSM were asked to provide a detailed threat assessment for a USAID development company operating in Pakistan who had suffered an assassination of an expatriate Chief of Party and had subsequently been alerted that a Fatwa specifically targeting their organization and personnel had been issued. Within 12hrs RSM had determined that the Fatwa was 6 months old, was issued against the entire development and NGO community and presented no new or increased risks to the client. RSM provided the name, location and mosque from which the Fatwa was issued, as well as details on the leadership and group activities. The client had extracted from Pakistan and based on this information were able to return to business.

Example: RSM were contacted by an NGO company who suspected a senior expatriate manager to be involved in fraudulent activities within a high risk and remote location (Pakistan). RSM offered remote advice and guidance on the associated risks in confronting the individual, as well as a range of solutions to deal with the issue. Within 4hrs RSM Consulting had an experienced expatriate manager on site to coordinate the safe removal of contractual and project information from the suspect’s office and laptop, while also offering on the site advice to the deputy expatriate manager. RSM also located a financial forensics company to investigate possible misappropriation of funds, located an investigator within the individual’s home country to conduct a criminal background check, and supported corporate management in dealing with the crisis. RSM also conducted a detailed threat assessment for the auditing team in terms of organizational and personal risks, and associated mitigation measures.

Example: Following a serious incident a security assessment was carried out for Peshawar, DI Khan, Bannu, Kohat and Islamabad to assess the security environment and concurrent threats to program performance. In addition an audit of current security policies, procedures, protocols and plans used to mitigate risks for offices, residences and activities at these locations was conducted. As part of this process BSG provided the following products: strategic and local intelligence reviews, strategic and local threat evaluations, site policies and activities. A report outlining the effectiveness of security protocols, procedures and approaches and recommendations were made. A presentation of the analysis along with the written report was presented to key personnel both in-country and to the corporate team. During this process it was found that a business recovery plan was urgently required and a business reengagement plan drafted which was included as a follow up report.
